Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann, 1948 in New York geboren, promovierte 1977 an der Harvard University und lehrt seither an der Abteilung für Kunst und Archäologie der Princeton University, seit 1989 als Professor. Zu seinen Veröffentlichungen zählen: "The School of Prague: Painting at the Court of Rudolf II" (1988; Mitchell Prize for art history) und "The Mastery of Nature: Aspects of Art, Science and Humanism in the Renaissance" (1993).
